Lactate Threshold Testing
The lactate threshold test consists of a discontinuous graded exercise test (GXT). Starting with a low level of intensity to measure the aerobic capacity. Work rate stages are usually taken every 4-6 minutes with heart rate (HR), rate of perceived exertion (RPE) and blood lactate measured at the end of each stage.
An extremely valuable measurement as it represents the contribution of different energy systems at different exercise intensities. Simply put it will inform your training so you can perform at a higher intensity / speed / wattage for longer without reaching fatigue. It has been noted in a number of scientific papers that the lactate threshold training is one of the best predictors of aerobic endurance performance.
